Recent Developments
2008 marks the 20th anniversary of the first call
received by Thanet O.W.L.S. Over the years, Thanet O.W.L.S. has
modified its operation to meet the changing needs of the day. Although
many of the calls received are still from people in crisis, a considerable
amount of their work now involves long-term telephone befriending.
However their objective remains unchanged, to support
people by listening in a quiet unobtrusive way, ensuring complete
confidentiality at all times.
In June 2007, Thanet O.W.L.S. moved to ground floor
accommodation in the Palm Bay area. This means that applications
can now be considered from potential volunteers with reduced mobility.
Car parking is adjacent to the centre. Thanet O.W.L.S. are grateful
to Thanet Local Strategic Partnership for providing funds to furnish
the new premises.
Jane Wenham-Jones, the local author, has recently
become a patron of Thanet O.W.L.S. We thank her for her support
and look forward to may years of working with her.
