Becoming a Volunteer.

Thanet O.W.L.S. welcomes applications from men and women of all ages and backgrounds as potential volunteers. In our experience, the very people who consider that they would find the work too difficult or demanding mature into excellent listeners.

Following the initial contact, an information pack and application form is sent out. Once the form is returned, we ask the potential volunteer to visit us for an informal discussion. If this is successful, a preparation course then follows consisting of four weekly sessions, during which the potential volunteer takes an active part in role-plays, as well as discussing possible scenarios and learning about the policies and operation of Thanet O.W.L.S.

After successfully completing the course, the new volunteer is ascribed to an experienced mentor, who will support them throughout their first few months of duties.

Preparation courses are usually held twice yearly, but extra courses can be implemented if the need arises. Thanet O.W.L.S. preparation course is highly regarded, and has been used in part by a local branch of a national charity for several years.

If you would like to find out more about becoming a volunteer, please contact us, or speak with the volunteers on duty. They will put you in touch with our Training Co-ordinator.
